Programs

 

  • Compilation of a National Directory of Science-Communicating Organizations, Government Organizations (GOs) and non-Government (NGOs). This is a joint project of NCSC and NCSTC, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The directory is expected to be published by December, 2003.
  • NCSC has established an ad hoc committee of International Union for Science Communicators, the members of which are as follows:

The ad hoc committee has finalized the constitution and is in the process of getting the International Union for Science Communicators (IUSC) registered at the Charity Commissioner's office in Mumbai, India. The IUSC`s head quarters will be in Mumbai. Its constitution is available at the NCSC office and the form of enrollment is attached.

  • The second International Conference of Science Communicators is to be held on June 20, 21 and 22, 2003 at the Training Centre of BARC, Mumbai. The conference is organized to felicitate and honour Dr.J.V.Narlikar who is retiring from Directorship of Inter University Centre of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA ) in July, 2003. The conference will be based on lifetime work of Dr.Narlikar.

Sessions

1.       Science and Social Responsibilities

2.       Frontiers of Astrophysics and Cosmology

3.       Role of Amateurs in Astronomy

4.       Astronomy Education through Planetaria

5.       Astrochemistry, Astrobiology and Origin of Life.

6.       Propogation of Scientific temper.

7.       Role of Museums in Science Awareness


About 200 Science Communicators are expected to participate in the conference. Participants are requested to fill up the attached form and send in their bio-datas along with the form duly filled in as based on this they will be enrolled for the conference on a first come first served basis. The forms should be sent to the National Centre for Science Communicators, Vidnyan Bhavan, V.N.Purav Marg, Sion- Chunabhatti, Mumbai 400022.

Conference Fees :

o        For Life Members of NCSC Rs. 800/- + Lodging Expenses (approx. Rs. 70/- per day, Non-AC accomodation, Accomodation availableonly for outstation people)

o        For Non-life Members of NCSC Rs. 1000/- + Lodging Expenses (approx. Rs. 70/- per day, Non-AC accomodation, Accomodation availableonly for outstation people)

o        For Institutions Rs.1500/- + Lodging Expenses (approx. Rs. 70/- per day, Non-AC accomodation, Accomodation availableonly for outstation people)

o        For Foreigners, USD 100 (Lodging Boarding and registration included, Lodging will be Non-AC)
